long weekend things to do, whats ur list?

5) time the car
6) have a beer
7) wait an hour or so
8) go for a long drive,
9) It sunday and forecast is for rain, with no garage no driving, so have a beer or some
10) pray for rain to stop
11) Monday if its still rainin repeat 9 and 10, if no rain repeat 8 then 6

Small construction job at my sons. He wants some more storage space.
 
KC All Brit. Ther will be some home brews drank and enjoyed. My twenty one yr old is coming home from college, so he and his tr 6, my buddy john and his bugeye, and I are going to caravan (25 miles) up and have a good time. The weather is strange, usually this is the hottest weekend of the year, and the weatherman is saying highs less than 80.
 
Car club is joining in the Miner's Day (Labor day to the rest of the country) on Monday, so hopefully the Tunebug will make it up the hill to Park City for the parade. Luckily the route is all down hill, so if you can make the start you can roll down pretty much the entire parade.

Saturday is 2 jazz gigs, money for more parts!
 
Nothing planned for the MG, it's gonna rain all weekend. I was able to drive it today and yesterday and loving it.

Tomorrow am off to a job site to measure up & draw an existing house. Extra cash for the hobby.

On the home front, going to design & build columns & trim for the french doors in my great room. This was put on hold while I was working on the GT. Room is finally coming along nicely. Youl'd be amazed at how long cardboard & duct tape lasts as a floor treatment!

I was informed at 3:45 today that I'll be working, at least on Saturday. So much for the long weekend! I'll probably help the guy that bought my Spit racecar do the brakes after work, and clean up some things on the car that he's not familiar with.
Sunday is yard work, if I don't have to work and the weather holds, and Monday should be just kicking back. Maybe a cruise in the Midget if no rain.

Go into work Sat. AM (this is my weekend for management coverage).
Sat. mid morning - Rock climbing at the Quarry
Sat. Afternoon Pull engine and tranny to fix cracked timing cover and side cover leak on tranny, reinstall.
Tune car with new wide band O2 meter.
Sunday - New carrara adjustable tube shocks on all corners.
Install spacers between hubs and rotors to center the rotor in the calipers (tapered roller bearing conversion).
Between each word above add "while drinking beer", expect for the work part.
 
Just got the engine on its stand (my son is home - brute force please) We're expecting rain so I'm expecting to tear it down - Hurray!
 
did you get the shock conversion from Winner Circle.Am curious to see how much differance it makes. When I did my tapered bearings everything lined up perfect. Rain Rain Rain, that all iot going to do here for the weekend
 
No, the shocks are a home brew setup. I picked up a set from a C2 'vette project that didn't use them. The fronts are done, but I noticed that one of the rears is weak, almost like it is low on oil. I'll need to get it rebuilt so for now I have the Dodge Colt shocks in the rear.
As far as the bearings and rotors, one side was centered but the other side was too close to the caliper for my liking. I R&R that side and re-shimmed the spacer and it lines up much better. It is a little confusing because the inner bearing should set the caliper position and that did not change. I must have not had the inner bearing seated on the spindle all the way. I thought I might have to shim because a friend of mine redid his after 13 years and the new bearings were slightly thicker than the old ones so he had to shim the rotor to hub joint.
The engine is in and out with the tranny leak fixed and the timing chain cover crack welded up and the vent tube braced, tuning today. So how is everyone else’s progress?

Chris, some of the tapered bearings have an incorrect radius on the inner race,which won't allow it to seat correctly against the radius of the spindle. If my memory serves, the part No. for the correct bearing is 30205X. Don't trust me on the number, but you may want to ensure that the bearing is fully seated on the spindle.

Thanks Jeff, now that you say that I think my friend later changed the inner bearing and removed the shim. I cleaned up the spindle with some emory cloth and it looks like it seated. There was some surface roughness that may have been the issue. Do you shim the distance piece and go with factory torque or leave the distance piece out and torque to 10 ft-lbs? I shimmed it but have read elsewhere that it is overkill. Your opinion would be appreciated.

About 12 grand for the whole thing. Hehe, who had that link to Bugeye prices.
 
That is actually the article that started my questions /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I had always been in the camp that you needed to shim the distance piece or you would risk spinning the inner races. The bearings really aren't a press fit on the spindle so locking the spindle to the inner bearing's inner race and outer bearing's inner race was why I thought it was necessary. The strength difference seems minimal. It seems that you would chew up the spindle in no time if a race spun.
 
I replaced mine with the timken bearing. left out the spacer in the middle. tighten them just like I would any other spindle bearing. Have not had any trouble. been driving the car 3 - 4 times a week to work. Some times we over think things
