Hey Guys! Long time not here but I am back to working on the 79 Midget. I need to get a areally good wiring diagram..one you do not have to be an electrical engineer to understand. In addition I have a question. I removed tyhe heater box and disassembled it to repaint. It came out very nice. However, I disconnected the internal small fan (?) and I noticed that it has 2 wires coming out of it: black and then a green with yellow striped wire. However, they were connected with black rubber insulated connectors in reverse:

blakc from heater box went ot green with yellow stripe to car and vice versa. This seems incorrect to me. Of course the person may have hooked it up wrong and I have never used it yet as the car is being restored, so any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks guys!

That is a DC motor and will turn in both directions, but only efficiently in one direction. Also the motor needs to turn in the right direction for air to flow through the heater. Someone may have switched the wiring inside the motor so just check which direction it turns when you connect it.

than's brother! I am pretty sure the joker has it backwards but I will verify. Been taking the engine compartment apart a piece at a time for repaint.
 
welcome back, the way I did it was hook it up one way turn it on and feel how much air is comming out of vent. switch wires feel it again, pick the way you get the most air.
 
Actually the blower motor (just like the starter motor) is a "dual-field" motor (no permanant magnet, just two electromagnets) and will turn the same direction no matter which way it is hooked-up. To verify I just went into the garage and tested it and it is true. Starter is the same thing, pos or neg ground and it starts the engine correctly.

wow, well the wires were so black from dirt or paint or something. A little Goof off and the dirt went bye bye. Now another silly question. I removed the negative battery cable form the car to "clean it". I used a Dremel and some sandpaper and yea it cleaned well, but the aluminim looking finish is now goldish (brass color)...so I assuem i sanded too much. Any danger with this?? thanks again from the newbie!
 
No problem at all- you just exposed the copper. If you want to you can heat the end up and apply some more solder but it isn't necessary.
