hey i recently got a 1991 jaguar and the trunk release is broken .. any suggestions on how to open up? other than using a crow bar of course any suggestions would greatley be appreciated.
 
If you remove the back seat, you might be able to crawl or reach the lock from the inside..

Welcome, search previous posts. Someone had mentioned a way to get in by a hole behind the license plate.

If I remember correctly.
 
On some Jags, the hasp is just held in place by a plate and two bolts. Often you can open the trunk just by a couple of quick yanks.
 
tried the seat thing ... couldn't get at it ... and the license plate thing didn;t work ...

i checked prev stuff and that didnt work either ... anyone help please???
 
HI Sabianax 2002, I do not know how they do it, but most junk yard personnel can open any locked Jag boot lid with a screw driver, without incurring damage.You might visit a Jaguar one and see.--Fwiw---Keoke
 
Take the car to a locksmith. With the key code for the driver or passenger door locks, they may be able to find the code to cut a key for the trunk.
 
A good lock smith can get past the lock and open the latch with very little effort and no damage. Try one.
 
If you dont have a miracle maker locksmith, you can actuate the trunk latch via a link that runs from the lock tumbler position down the rear of the trunk lid to the latch. You get access to this link via a hole made behind the license plate. Figure out how to make the hole in the correct position by getting to an open trunk of an XJ40 that you can examine the link routing and make measurements to get the right position from the outside prior to making the hole. One tug on the link with a small vise grip will free the latch.
