Location and size of hole for muffler bracket

Apparently while doing some body work on the floor pan the hole for the muffler mounting bracket was closed on my BE. Can someone provide me with some reference dimensions for the location and the size of the hole?

Location is right above where the exhaust bolts on. Hehe, really.

What ever size fits for you. use a big washer in side.

Use a FENDER washer on both sides!

Got it. Big fender washers on each side of the bolt that passes through the hole. Still need to know where the hole goes a bit more precisely.

The best way to do this is to hang the exhaust on the car, hold it up with a jack, keep it just to the inside of the bumperette, see where the muffler bracket hits the trunk floor and then drill a hole.
Due to a variety of different mufflers around these days, sometimes the original hole points the muffler right at the bumperette.
I just installed a new system on my Sprite, I used a 3/8 hole, large washer and welded the bolt in from inside the cave. Now I can R&R my muffler without having someone hold the bolt from inside the cave. Use an old shock bushing (from a tube shock) for the rubber insulator between the body and the muffler.

Heh, every darn muffler will be just a bit different but then they last for a long long time. A bit of JBWeld will hold that bolt on the inside as well.

On Ray's behalf, I suspect he needs real measurements since Whitephrog is a proper restoration. Ray, I don't think Ms Triss can help you but I'd be happy to measure if it is of worth

Why haven't I seen any reference to a muffler attachment under the trunk? Everything I've seen (for a Bugeye at least) is that there is an atachment to the bellhousing and another hanging off the bulkhead/shut plate.

Ray I'll see if I can get some good measurements off the Tunebug tonight -- the muffler is off at the moment anyways. The muffler mounting point seems to be factory original. I'll get some pictures as well.

Here's the measurements I made off of the Tunebug. The bolt is a 1/4-20. The bolt is through the same stamped out area as the bumper bracket.

The 1/2" measurement is from the bolt to the edge of the stamped area.

I assume that the position is original on my car, as so much else is unmolested. Can't guarantee that, however.
