MGB-GT loaded the CGT for a show...blew my knee.

I think I should buy an old missle silo and go hide in it. I worked like a dog for the past week getting my CGT ready to go to "outside the box" in Las Cruces NM. English car get together I've been trying to make for years. Last nite while loading the thing on my trailer...I tripped over the last cargo strap we put on and went off the back of the trailer. When I got up at 230am I had what looked like a melon on my left knee. From then till about 1pm I iced it so I can at least walk. Drove the rig back to the shop and shoved it off.Going to stash all my cars in the shop...take them all off the road and buy an automatic junker and start shopping for a new knee. Maybe next year.

ouch.

awww, Jack... That's sooo frustrating. So sorry to hear this.

Blew my right one out five years back, BOWLING... didn't know it 'til the next morning. Woke up with my knee and entire lower leg three times normal size.

...not a happy thing. Just don't toss th' baby out with th' bathwater, mmkay?

Jack, when this happened, did you hear or feel a "pop" or a "clunk"? I had a similar event many years ago....was my anterior cruciate ligament. It is possible to "recover" without surgery as long as you have no intentions of playing pro sports!

I've made a career out of trashing my knees...mostly the left one. Started with sports in school and the military. Really messed it up about two weeks before I was to report for Air Force recruiters school..I was stationed in Panama City Fl. and at a going away party and as sober as a judge, was playing volleyball when I went up to smack the ball and woke up in the back of a station wagon on the way to the base hospital...so much for school but at least I saved my career. Had a few minor things done...left there for Charleston SC...tore it up twice more..more minor work on it. Went to England in 78 and was TDY to Egypt in support of the Iranian hostage debacle....this time it was serious. Got sent back to England and the next day under the knife...3 1/2 hrs. Nine months later...4 1/2 more hours. Salvaged my career...again..refused to be a paper pusher. My knee clicks, grinds, clunks..bleeds and swells. Only saving grace is that during the last operation they cut the nerves to most of my leg...bad part is I usually don't know when I hurt it till I fall down. Soooo..thats why I'm closing the shop pretty much down and selling most of my toys. Keep your eyes peeled for a huge sale.

Come on Jack. As bad as it seems right now please don't be in such a hurry to throw in the towel. You love those toys and would be lost without them just as any of us would. Take as long of a break as you need to fix and rehabilitate your knee then jump back into the mix with the rest of us. We'll save your spot!

Jack,

I second Shawn's comments. Knew another C owner who lost his wife to cancer and had doubts about a lot of things because of it. Wanted to sell his C, and so forth.

In the end he didn't. And he's glad to still have it.

Don't make any important decisions now, about the MGC or anything. Too much emotion.

Let it all go, get healed and then make the call.

Mark

Jack, I only know what I have read in this thread so I only have that as a basis for the following:

Instead of selling off everything, why not look for some "younger" enthusiasts to mentor. In exchange, they help you with the heavy work, things your knees don't want to do anymore. Getting the car ready for shows, loading the trailer, etc. To my way of thinking it is a win-win for all. You still get to have and enjoy your car(s if there is more than one), you get to share your knowledge and experiences with the next generation. You will help some others that may never otherwise get the chance to get into old cars. And they will get education and practical experience from someone who knows what he's talking about! Something to think about.......

Over the past few months I've been fortunate enough to meet some really talented Special Ops. guys that have been relocated from Fl. to Cannon AFB here in Clovis. As luck would have it, most are VW and Mustang freaks...still trying to convince them to go British. Anyhow, the do alot of the heavy stuff and help me with wahtever I need including engine teardowns, cleaning, paint prep..evn cleaning the shop and taking care of my old dog who isn't doing well.Another hard decision I will probaly have to make the week. Nuggie is a big mixed breed who is 16 and been with me since he was six weeks old. Bad hips, vision and hearing fading but still a big lovable mutt who dosen't appear to be in pain...just old like me. I've found over the years, most young guys aren't interested in vehicles and getting dirty, would rather tinker on electronics and make big bucks. I steered my son in that direction and am glad I did. We'll see what happens.
