Let me introduce my self. My name is Ken and I recently retired from the armed forces and moved back to Upstate New York,about 45 minutes from Watkins Glen. While on the West Coast I hade a 72 MG Midget I thought I would be bringing back home.
Needless to say plans change. But for the better. I now have on its way a 62 MK2 Triumph. The goal is to take it around the track for the vintage weekend.

(and don't listen to Micky....after owning a TR you might come back from the dark side and get a proper MG :jester: )

I have spent a fair amount of time at The Glen over the years (starting in '68).

I will be at Watkins Glen with one of my cars for the VRG vintage races on October 16th - 18th. I'm not sure if I'll be at the earlier SVRA vintage event...depends on my Fall schedule.
We have at least one member here who lives in the area (Banjo), so you might check in with him or me as the time gets closer.

And I have to admit: I've owned a lot of British cars, but I'm scratching my head over a "62 Mk2 Triumph".
What exactly is that?

"Welcome" aboard & "Congrats" on your retirement & your "MKII":

I`ve been thru Horseheads on many Bus. trips to Elmira, Corning etc. I got (2) Speeding tickets in the area where your coming off of RT.17 into Horseheads and hit all the lights. Man, That is one heck a "Trap" there.

Your doing about 60+mph on RT.17 & then "All of a Sudden"; It drops down to almost a Braking Speed. I fought one of the tickets and won but I still had to drive up there and appear in the Court House, Complete with Fire House, Library, Everything including the kitchen sink.

Anyways; "Welcome" again & Best Wishes with your "New/Old" MKII. We "LOVE" pics here so don`t be shy.

Well, there is my first mistake. A 62 is a MK1. "Spitfire 4". As you said There is alot for me to learn!

The "Spitfire 4" is my favourite Spit, because (to my old eyes) it is more "pure" and less "dolled up" than the later cars.
It's a great car but just watch that rear suspension in the turns......it can bite you. :driving:

Welcome Ken. Fellow Horseheadian! I gotta show you "Johnson Hollow Road" If you don't know it already. It cuts about ten minutes off the drive to the track, and is tons more fun in a sportscar than putting along in traffic up Rt 14.
I'm just outside of Hanover Square, and on a good traffic day I can be rolling in the gate of the track in about 20 minutes.
The Vintage weekend is Awesome!

Right across the street from the Horseheads Brewing Company on Old Ithaca Road, there is a nice couple with a fresh restored Bugeye sprite. I imagine you'll see it when the weather breaks.

How`s the TR2 coming along?

One of these days, "If and When", I get up your way; I`d love to see the Bugeye as I recently bought one. Mine is a decent driver.

Russ, great to hear from ya. TR2 is basically dead in the water. the funding is not there. I never did hear back from my friend about that other TR3 and the TR4s. But as my finances are, I'll just be passing the info along if I ever get said info. (my hopes are waning).
Best chance to spot my neighbors Bugeye would be to come to the National Warplane museum show in June. right up at the Elmira Corning regional airport.
It'a a real light gray color. it looks sharp.
Just waiting for winter to break. Otherwise, yes. hibernating is the word.
