Autocross school is 30 days away. I have to work like a banshee to get the Midget ready to pass inspection, and to perform. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
First, a problem which I must address is the play in the drivers side front wheel. Just a bit on wiggling, about 1/4 of an inch, but enough to be disqualified, I'm assuming this may be a ball joint/wheel bearing thing right?
Regardless of autocross, it needs fixing anyway.
Second is my battery, I'll need to fab something to replace the bungee cord that tries to keep it still.
Jobs:
1. Fix wheel wobble.
2. Fix battery stowage.
3. Install harness.

Here's where you guys come in....
Has anyone constructed anything for a (vid) camera mount across the rear of the cockpit? I'd like to see some form of structure please if you have something.
Does anyone have a roll bar of any description they are willing to part with? It doesn't have to be SCCA approved or anything, just enough to keep my skull attached.

I'll also need some help when it comes to changing wheel hub components, this will be my first time, I can't afford to outsource and the pressure is on me.

No ball joints, could be bearing. What's wiggling, the wheel, or the tie rod, or the A frame or the what?

Where does it stop wiggling?

What type of wiggle? top/bottom? side/side? up/down?
Does it still wiggle when the brake pedal is held down?

When I grasp the wheel & tire and back & forth it, it feels like a lug nut is loose, only slightly, but enough to hear a faint (very quiet) clunk on the in and out motion of the wheel.

Camera mount? Mine spans between the windshield pillars... but that probably wouldn't be good for an autocross event.

The best I can describe the wiggle, is with my hands at 3 and 9 o'clock, pushing and pulling.
It still wiggles with the brake pedal depressed.

Not likely bearings. Could be as simple as an outer tie rod end. Or more complicated like the inner tierod end. Or.. badly worn fulcrum pin. Is there any other movement when the car is on jack stands?

I don't have it on stands yet, at the weekend I will when I try and nail this down, I'll get her up.

i'm thinking fulcrum pin as well. not tierod and not bearings (unless they are destroyed which is doubtful).

You note I kept from saying fulcrum pin, sigh.

New A frame or rebuild is the only way if that is what it is indeed.

Someone was just telling me that they removed the fulcrum pin and reamed out the hole and put a long bolt all the way through with a nut on it for a race car. Its in one of these threads but I can't recall which. Otherwise what jack said, I got new threaded bushings from apple pretty cheap and they are brazed on.

A fulcrum pin?
A $20 part?
A handful of bucks for new bushings.
Possibly the worst job I'll ever do on a Midget. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cryin.gif
Any chance I can blag my way around it?

This is what I get for skipping over the Hub Puller posts.

If you do this, have the A arm line bored and then you an aircraft quality bolt and nut. Good luck!!!!!

*update on wobble*
It's me (outer) tie rod, not a biggie, seems the old hip has a bit of cartlidge missing.
