The best compilation I've ever seen of original news film of the great solo trans-Atlantic flight.

You can choose individual videos from the "view port" at the right of the screen.

Close ups of the takeoff from Roosevelt Field (a near disaster), the last pictures of the Spirit as it left Long Island and headed out over open water, minute by minute logs of the flight, and even photos of the plane at LeBourget Field outside Paris, just after it was vandalized by souvenir seekers.

Amazing stuff.

Tom- Thanks for posting this.... it was OUTSTANDING!

Great documentary, thanks for posting that, Tom.

One of my favorite films is "The Spirit of St. Louis", the saga of Lindbergh's flight. If you haven't seen it, try to catch it on Turner Classics.

It's easy to forget how huge that flight was and good to be reminded by artful documentaries such as this. I always think about the Wright "Whirlwind" engine, what a masterpiece of engineering at such an early stage in air flight! 220HP, and the stamina to fly across the pond, safely.

"Lucky Lindy", indeed! :yesnod:

Amazing stuff.

RE: Wright Bro's... Went to Kitty Hawk for the 70th anniversary of their accomplishment. In 1903 they were casting and machining their own engines! Innovators. Built what is likely the first wind tunnel, too.
