Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809.

Who has seen the new movie Lincoln?

- What did you think?

- What did you learn?

- What was surprising?

Thanks.
Tom

Haven't seen it yet, but I will. Tom, since you're a history buff and a Connecticut resident you must have heard about the controversy...

"Lincoln" screenwriter Tony Kushner has admitted that he did inaccurately portray the Connecticut congressional delegation's vote on the 13th Amendment — "

Great movie... and not entirely what I expected. Superb acting (Day-Lewis especially). I guess I didn't realize that the time-period is a very narrow one (in the winter of 1865 mostly)... and centers on getting the 13th Amendment passed (and some of the tough politics he was willing to employ). Definitely worth seeing.

Everyone I know loved it.

I was less enthused by it.......I may be an outlier on this, but I didn't find it all that interesting.

I loved Doris Kearns-Goodwin's book!

Thanks for the comments. I've never found a work by Goodwin anything less than excellent. Always enjoy hearing her comments on the NewsHour.

Still trying to figure out why Kushner changed reality on such a blatant issue as the Connecticut vote on that very important change of direction for the USA. Seems it just added a divisive, and unnecessary, fillip to the story. I'd think that could have been done in a "less invasive" way. I was hoping it was just due to some bad editing, but if Kushner admitted it, well ...

Doris Kearns-Goodwin's books are worth reading. "No Ordinary Time" is, IMHO, one which should be in every high school history class.

The success of the movie has been rather surprising, given that Lincoln never really did well in theaters before. Shot on location, I hear.....
Groan!!!

" Other than that Mrs. lincoln, how was the play?"
