They exist. Here's one place that makes them. https://www.quaife.co.uk/catalogue/page17.htm I've never used one so I can't comment on how well they work.

I suppose a Salisbury (clutch type) or Hewland (cam and pawl type) differential would be more "period" but the Quaife really is the ticket.

thanks for the info,i should have also asked if healys of any mark i.e bn1-300 had been manufactured with them?

One of the difs for 100 m spec vintage race car has a Quaife in a 4.11 driven by a non overdrive 4 speed. It is effective in exiting low speed conners but is in my opinion a street/racing application. A fellow competitor had a clutch/disk limited slip; full racing, again in my opinion, with 4.30 dif in a 4 speed OD trans. It sheared the pumpkin at the drive shaft connection exiting a slow speed uphill conner. FYI jtb
