So I just HAD to bring my father in-law for a ride in the new TR8 to show her off a bit.

Second gear, full throttle, ought to impress him. Run her up to 4K, clutch in to shift, tach to 6K+. BUGGER!!!! I shut the engine off after about 2 second of pegging the tach.

How likely is it that I just trashed the engine?

No knocking or smoke (yet).

Re: Likelihood that I just trashed the TR8 engine?

I'll bet he was impressed.

Re: Likelihood that I just trashed the TR8 engine?

You probably didn't hurt anything, except your father-in-law's image of you.

Re: Likelihood that I just trashed the TR8 engine?

LOL Bill. Merry Christmas by the way!

Oh man - that is the wrong way to make an impression.

I had a son-in-law like you once. He is scheduled to be out on parole mid 2008.

Re: Likelihood that I just trashed the TR8 engine?

OK, Lou you cracked me up too!

I wasn't being bad guys - I was just being a proud Triumph owner whose throttle stuck <grin>

Re: Likelihood that I just trashed the TR8 engine?

Dang Lou, you don't have to worry about feeling the love on this thread.

I doubt your motor is hurt 1/100 as much as you pride. If it cranks and runs with out knocks and smoke, you are OK.

Fix you throttle! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Do not under estimate the engines toughness.... no leaks, no knocks, no rapping.... no problem

Re: Likelihood that I just trashed the TR8 engine?

You mean 6500 isn't redline on these things?

Thought I knew of all TRs in the area then someone sneaks in a yellow TR4. I do get into Whitley Co occasionally. Give me a call at 260-925-6740

I've been down that overreving the motor road a couple of times. Both times the motor was fine for a few hundred miles, and then the valve springs started snapping. They snapped on long highway drives while I was traveling at a constant speed. Both of my motors had fairly high lift cams with stock springs. I want to say they were around 470 lift, which is about as high as you can go without going to different springs.

Oh man..... and here I was feeling pretty good that I didn't actually do anything wrong Todd. (as always - thanks for the info)

I figure it is what it is as this point - not going to worry about it any more.

(anyone buying that? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif )

I would not spend the week or moth worrying about anything unless you notice soemthing different. ALl of us who drive TR8 know you have to drive by the seat of your pants to really know what is up with our cars. You will know if something is wrong
