Lifting body with engine hoist

I've seen pictures where people lifted the body from their frame with an engine hoist and I was wondering how it is done. I have the body off my frame now and we had 4 guys lift the body and another to roll the frame out.

One day I might have to lift the body without much help... I have an engine hoist... anyone know how this is done?

Thanks,

Adam

I have done this. If you go to my web site there are pictures of the little "frame" I had attached to the inside of the body. This frame held the body in shape when off the car frame and also provided a place to attach the engine crane. If you need more detail after looking at my web site, just ask me.

I too have accomplished this. I simply used tow heavy duty tow straps which were run thru the wheel wells and then connected to the hoist centered over the cockpit. It's an easy job.

I say if there is beer there is a helping hand!! the more friends the merrier, and what a happy day indeed, the body going back onto the chassis is a moment to celibrate with other car guys!!

I have done this myself with my GT6. It was actually quite easy. I fabricated two brackets that replaced the front hood latches...I think the dimesions are in the manuals..I just winged it though. I used a 4 X 4 slipped under the body between the rear wheel wells for the back. I also used an engine leveler to make sure it was balanced. Actually is was easier than I though it would be.I then placed it on a cheap harbor freight trailer so I could move it around easier. Oh yes, I used chains rather than straps.
My advice though....4 friends would be better..I was I had 4 friends...actually I do but they are only interested in the beer part!
Good luck.
