Lift-the-dot peg

HELP!! I have two sets of doors 59 & 60 tr-3a's, both have lift-the-dot pegs(wood threads)that are 3/4 inch in length, the common 1/2 length thread does not get a good hold in the wood - any suggestion where these 3/4 inch pegs can be found- Midnight

Seems like the last ones I bought from TRF had the longer thread, but that was a few years ago and I'm not certain.

There is an easy fix for the wood, though. Take a wooden matchstick, coat the end with wood glue (Elmer's will do in a pinch) and stick it into the hole as far as it will go. Break it off flush with the surface, then screw the peg in. If you want, you can leave it not quite seated until the glue sets, but I generally just go ahead and put it all the way in. Give it some time before you put a strain on the peg, though.

For larger holes (like where the screws for the side curtain mounts go into the doors), I use a hardwood dowel and drill a hole to suit the dowel. The resulting repair is stronger than the original wood.

Midnight --
You're in Reno -- near Lake Tahoe. Somewhere in your area is a boat shop or boat cover maker who stocks LTD parts. That's where I go in Minneapolis (Land o' Lakes) when I don't want to pay outrageous shipping on a few small parts from the mail-order guys.
Also -- TRF does have the 3/4" studs for the door. Even with Randall's totally adequate hole fix, I think the 1/2" studs are a little marginal for the door. The short ones are for screwing into the sheet metal across the top of the dash, behind the windscreen.
