Question: Were there any LHD TR5's produced by Triumph and if so, how many and where might they be?
Surely they would be some of the most collectable of all TR's.

Bill

Today is the start of the Pacific NW Triumphfest here in Olympia, and a guy drove his RHD TR5 all the way from California. He bought it from someone in the UK, had no trouble importing it, but it took him almost six months to get it licensed. It's beautiful -- and it even has a Surrey Top!!!

I was thinking about the LHD/RHD thing, and I recall that since the TR5 was made also for other LHD countries, there are some out there.

Offhand I've no idea how many LHD TR5s there might be, but they would have been built for, say, Continental Europe in that form. Probably Canada, too, but I'm not clear on that. There are a few around; I seem to recall that Charles Runyan of The Roadster Factory has or had one.

A member of my club has one. He imported it from Beligium. Its a LHD TR5 with metric gauges and Petrol Injection. There are few records for LHD 5s because they were assembled on the mainland of Europe using Triumph parts. For tax reasons it was much less expensive to sell them this way. There is no BMH certificate available for this guys car.

As far as I know we had the TR250 here in Canada and not the TR5.

Canadian dealers received TR-250s, but it was possible to factory order a TR5 and have it delivered to Canada. It was not possible to factory order a TR5 and have it sent to the US.

At today's Triumph show there were two TR5s (both real) and both were RHD.

Thanks Sam. That answers a long standing question I had. I have seen TR250s here but not TR5s. Maybe some day I will find one.

There are actually a fair number of 5s in Canada. If you go to any regional Triumph club show, I'm sure you'll see a few.

I think the TR-250 is more flashy looking (with the silver nose stripe.) But I'd rather have the TR5 performance!!!
