I believe you are quite right about it being an Austin 7. There were a wide variety of 7's, but the attachment of an Austin 7 I've provided seems to fit the chassis in question. The bumper is unmistakeable. There is the crank through the grill, and the curved brackets around the radiator seem to fit the curve of the grill in the attachment.

definately not a TC. Remember, the gas tanks on the T series MGs were all external slabs that were part of the 'body image' itself. And I don't think it is the other pre-war variants because they all had those wierd disk/plate shock absorbers in the front.

Austin 7 was my first instinct too... but I'm not that familiar with em.
 
Austin 7 is correct. This particular chassis is a 1935. The body for it is a Ruby. The owner is a local club member (ex-pat brit) and has owned it from 1971 when he used it for daily transport while attending University for his PhD in Yorkshire. The Ruby is on its second restoration and last night he had it down at a local Brit Car shop to show the club and give us a little education on the history of the Austin 7. He also has a 1929 chassis and engine that he wants to build into a special. He's thinking of a rounded boat tail body. Sort of a mini Hispano-Suiza (sp?)

Once had a morris eight about a '34/5, went to register it and the local lads called it a mechanical cockroach!, my reply, first prize at the police ball, wonder why i had probs getting it registered!
 
The owner told me that the last time he had the car in for its MOT the brakes scored a 50% and he received a round of applause from the testers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
 
Ah-ha! Now you're talking. Know 'em like the back of my hand. Pre '37 Ruby - among other things you can tell by the chassis extensions over the back wheels that it's a Ruby. It has the earlier cylinder head, 2-bearing crankcase that puts it at '35 or early '36.
 
His research put the chassis as a '35 and the engine as a late '34. He did upgrade the brakes to '37 though for their better performance.
