Was not going to post my non LBC activities here but seems this is a slow day.
My friend has a Legend track car and I have been helping out as crew, etc. He is 70 years old and has had compition licenses for over 50 years including NASCAR.
So off we go to the track for the first time this year in the big truck with Studley Raceing on the side and a big number 8 on the closed trailer. All the goodies in side that trailer, Tools, air, jacks, tires, etc, etc. First class all the way.
Ok, first practice session. Could not get the car to hook up with the track till I twisted his arm and put a set of new tires on it. hehe. He was trying to be cheep till I reminded him that tires get harder as they get run hot for a season. Tread is not the most important factor. Softer tires are good.
Even with squirley car in practice sessions his times were right on for the money if my stopwatch is still working OK. Was all over the track though with the old tires. Old man can go like heck even with bad tires.
Raceing fuel, the purple stuff is 7 bucks a gal.
Broke a stearing/peice on the rack, third lap of the main. Have not really looked closely yet but will monday. He comming out of #2 jerked right and went to the wall. Dam. Had my attention. Did not hit the wall but no way to repair anything, no time. So we packed up and went home.
Got home at 3:30, slept forever sat.
Learned a lot. The old guy can drive like crazy. My old instencts on what needs done to make a car go remain. I can change tires with the best of the youngsters. Can I make an engine scream at 10K and pull like an elephant, even with four carbs.
Good time, good folks, good fun. Wife is happy I am happy. Good wife. Will do it again in a few weeks when they race again. Off to look at the damage. Us crew chiefs work is never done. hehe.
