less than lethal weapons

Watching the news the other night about the LA Police, a lawyer came on complaining about the recent handling of the protests etc. She said, "these allegedly less than lethal weapons are injuring people." Not sure what her definition less than lethal is.

There is something about the word ILLEGAL that just doesnt carry ANY weight anymore! Her alligations are allegedly insane {by my views}. Is there proof that "Less than lethal weapons" has ever killed anyone? As to the legality of thier use in this particular situation is an entirely different matter, best left for the courts and jurors to decide. If she can recruit a client and he/she is so inclined to file litigation,
I assure you "They" dont want ME on that jury.

What gets me is the "illegal alien" which conjures up visions of creatures from outer space. Should it not be "illegal immigrant" after all isn't it migrant workers and not alien workers. Please correct me if I am wrong.

tip-toe through the two lips.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Both are wrong! They are simply "illegals"....an 'immigrant' is someone who adheers to a country's immigration laws...& the media tacking the word 'immigrant' to them has added legitimacy to the cause! Call them what they are: illegals!

Sorry, don't guess I really tiptoed!

Err - that might be your definition. Merriam-Webster begs to differ...

immigrant
One entry found for immigrant.

Main Entry: im·mi·grant
Pronunciation: 'i-m&-gr&nt
Function: noun
: one that immigrates : as a : a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence

There is no mention about the legality of their situation.

Well, duh, the only way to "take up permanent residence" is to do it legally - otherwise you're an 'illegal' who's always looking over your shoulder & can't ensure permanency!

Here's another definition:

A person who leaves one country to settle permanently in another.

The fact that they are 'looking over their shoulder' as you put it doesn't seem to stop them getting drivers licenses, buying houses or putting their kids through school.

Those three things combined pretty much fit my definition of permanent residence...

And don't get me started about the fact that my school district now won't employ teachers that aren't bilingual.

They can't do any of those things in Alabama - & the majority of the states! YET!!

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]Those three things combined pretty much fit my definition of permanent residence... [/QUOTE]

....& there was a recent case where a guy who had been in Alabama illegally for over 20 years was involved in a legal matter & was turned over to the feds & returned to Mexico without his consent (his children were all 'of age' - guess his 'permanency' ended then?

Well, I won't be voting for Pataki!

& I think I'll close my mouth on this subject before the thread goes way off the deep end....

If we need to be biligual, I want it to be Norwegian. My family came in through the correct process and I want my language not an "illegal's". I'm with you Tony.
