In addition to my Healey,I also enjoy flying a powered parachute(PPC).I use a simple GPS which uses two AA batteries which run down in midflight way too often.I'd like to run this direct to the 12 volt system.I am pretty weak when it comes to electronics.
What component can I add to the wiring that would reduce the 12 volts down to 3 volts or acceptable and do away with the two AA batteries?The 12 volt is a typical Garden tractor type. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif <font color="red"> </font>Thanks for your help,Ben
 
Hi Golf, The simplest way I can think of at the moment where the items are readily available are: 1] Get a 12 Volt low capacity DC-to-120V AC converter. Then get a typical 120V-to-3Volt battery charger.This charger must have AMP capacity to run your GPS unit.Note; it is possible to drop the existing 12V volt battery potential down to 3 Volts but specifying the resistor size not knowing the current requirenents of the GPS and your unfamiliarity with Lectrics prevent me from using this approach.---Fwiw---Keoke

Don't overlook the current requirement (amps) of the GPS unit, as Keoke has pointed out.

Yeah Dar100, but I thought he was flying around tethered to a "Garden Tractor". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif However if the thing will operate on two "AA" batteries I guess most DC -to -DC converters will handle that load.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cowboy.gif
