LED Dash lights

i saw the post on LED dash bulbs, I purchased a few with the screw base, white, and they work really well on the the ign, and hi beam indicators, a lot brighter than stock bulbs as for the turn signal it flashes when the left turn is on but will not flash when the right turn is on, I know LED are polarity sensitive, I need to put an old bulb back in and see if it flashes both ways

I did order the green, based on autolumination recommendations. I wanted them for the back lighting on the gauges, rather than the signals.

They did send me a link to a whole page of special instructions about what to do and not do when installing LED bulbs. I thought I would wait to see how they work before posting. More to follow when bulbs arrive.

Well, another slight setback. I received the bulbs today, but they are clear, rather than the green that Tracy at autoliminations recommended, so now I have to wait for an email response to straighten that out. More to follow...as usual.

ATTENTION --- STUPIDITY ALERT MAY BE IN AFFECT!!!

I just got a reply and found out that ALL LEDS are clear until being lit up. I'll have to test over the weekend. If I had paid closer attention to the pictures on their site, I would have seen that the color was as she described it after being powered on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Paul,

You should try them. I first ordered the green LEDs but they weren't bright enough, then I ordered the multi-LED lights, both green and white, just to compare. Once installed, I honestly couldn't tell the difference between white and green, but the white lights where slightly brighter.

I was going to order, and was wondering which type of bulb you bought? inverted, focused of frosted? I think the inverted might put more light on the gauge face. thanx for any help. jim

Sorry, got nothing done but driving like crazy at British Legends Weekend in Cape Cod. I'll test led's and post later this week.

Do I get a prize for this question?
If you put in LED dash lights, can they still be dimmed or do they only operate as on - off?
Will they damage the dimmer reostat or will the reostat take out the LEDs?

I haven't had time to do anything with this project. According to Interlight, the LED's will dim and will not damage the dimmer.

BUT!!!! There's always something.

I opened the box with the bulbs and found that they will not fit into the fuel gauge opening, which is a long tube on the back of the gauge, so I have to see if they will work in the other small gauges and I hope to get my spares out and confirm that tonight. The openings on the tach and speedo are big, so I see no problem there.

More to follow this evening.................

Well, this pretty much tells the story about the inability to use the 5-LED bulbs in the 4 small gauges. maybe the 4-LED units will fit in the small gauge tubes. As you can see, there is a slight difference at the base of the LED which makes it too big to fit in the socket tube. The bigger gauge on the right fits fine.

Hondo, did you get yours from the same source as me, Interlight? Did you get the (4) LED version? Let me know how they fit, for you can see that the (5) versions do not. I may go to the 8 watt bulbs if I can't get bulbs to fit.

Thanks,

Paul, I got mine from autoluminations, I got some frosted bright white, I put them in the spedo and tach, I dont think they are quite as bright as the regular bulbs but they have a blue white light as compared to the old bulbs, I am going to run them for a while and see if I like them

Whoops! My mistake. I got mine from autoluminations also. I got the standard 3.5 bulbs from Interlight.
