This goes out to everyone who has a Jag after 1990, after Ford took over the company. I have a 1990 XJ6, the problem is the fuel pump. Jaguar fuel pumps will not fit because the sockets fittings are too small. So this means you have to purchase the Delco fuel pump which is crap. I bought one in January of this year and now I am buying another one in July. First of all, they do not fit properly in the designated area which is underneath the rear axle. The Delco fuel pump is much smaller which causes it to bounce around increasing the wear and tear. Now that I have bought a new one, the engine is beginning to die out occassionally. I know it is the fuel pump, not used but new. A $200 new part. This will be the third fuel pump I will have to purchase in a year. The fuel line in clean and the fuel injectors are good. All I can say is, stay away from Jaguars once Ford acquired the company.

I had always heard that the Ford takeover made the Jaguars more reliable, maybe it's mostly an issue with trying to fit a different fuel pump to the old 6-cylinder engines and then once Jaguar introduced its' brand new engines that issue went away.

It's been mentioned here before, but one of the top rated sedans is the Series III XJ6 (built 1981 to 1987), Jaguar managed to iron most of the problems and finally made a mostly troublefree car. And of course in reference to the above, this was before the Ford takeover.

My friend recently purchased a 1994 Jaguar sedan in excellent condition (I think 6-cylinder model) and so far is quite happy with it - his car will be babied and treated like a true classic, driven in the summer and parked in the winter to save it from the salt, something the previous owner did as well.
 
I know that the Series I XJ6 shared the same fuel pump as the TR6, (only using two of them) and that owners were able to save a considerable amount of money by specifying the TR6 Unipart number rather than the Jaguar one.

I would have thought that Ford would have used an Autocraft part, because doesn't General Motors own AC Delco? Just wondering.
 
Lenny, My sympathy for your fuel pump problems but it does not apply to Ford or all Jaguars after the Ford investment in Jaguar, it was not a buy out. You have an early 1990 XJ6; the fuel pump was changed early in that year to an in tank fuel pump that is totaly different from your rear axle mounted one. The new design is probably more reliable but it is more difficult to change out if you have trouble with it. The gas tank must be removed. I prefer the external mount since it is simple to replace. There are form, fit and function Jaguar pumps available that are not AC Delco brand. Sounds like your supplier is the source of this dilema. Best regards, Jack
