leaky wiper posts

Rainy rainy weekend. Got my gear oil changed, and ne ignition switch in..did not get to look under the engine for the darn timing notch. But I did find a puddle in the drivers footwell. It appears that the pad/gasket under the drivers wiper post is worn out. If I remove the not then the chrome housing comes off..correct then I can put on a new gasket or pad. OR can I just put a very thin bead of clear silicone around the base and bonnet? would this harm the paint (new base clear coat 2 months ago) ?

Yes to your first idea, temp fix, cut a new gasket from an intertube. This was a common fix some while back, with a little care you may never need another. However the usual places sell the gasket as well.

thanks jack,, numb mind did not think of inner tube,, son has loads out in the back shed

Long ago gaskets, special ones, not engine, we all made from intertubes as that was all you could do.
