How big a job is it to replace the rear oil seal in a LH overdrive. Can it be done without a lift and without any special tools ? Thanks, Bob

Hmmm... Not sure, but if you drop the driveshaft, you should be able to access the seal. Not an easy project I'd imagine. It'll be interesting to get some more input on this.

If I can remember, it's been a long time, as Mickey says, drop the drive shaft, pulling the yoke out and then take a slide hammer with a small foot on it, insert inside the seal, then use the slide hammer to pull the old seal out. I always put a thin coat on the new seal outer ring with Permatex copper, don't put the sealer in the hole the seal goes in as it could get inside the unit, insert the new seal making sure the seat is clean and dry, using a block of wood to tap on keeping the seal straight. Hope my memory hasn't failed me on this. If there is a grove worn in the yoke where the seal sets, drive the seal in leaving about .020 gap behind the seal body and the lip of the seal will not drop in the old grove of the yoke. PJ
