Can the oil seal be replaced with the box still in the car there was an earlier post but can't seem to find it

Ralph,

How bad is your present seal?

A good friend replaced the oil in his leaking steering box with John Deere Corn Head Grease and has high praise for the improved steering feel and the fact he didn't have to change the seal. I bought 2 tubes and was ready to use them in my steering box but the oil level in my box hadn't changed in years (no leaks). I put them on the shelf for the time my seal begins to leak and change then.

Take a look through this thread (https://www.britishcarforum.com/bcf...eaky-Steering-Box&highlight=John+Deere+Grease)

"Steering Arm Removal"

Depending on the last time you pulled the arm off, you will likely need a press to get it out. I had one that I was disassembling for parts, that I couldn't break free with any amount of beating (fully soaked with penetrating oil) or pulling with a puller. I put it in a press and pushed the shaft out of the steering arm and it sounded like I needed to take cover when it let loose. It was not all that rusty either.
