So frustratingly sad...

I'd be in a straight jacket.

NO question.

I love snowboarding but those dang things are about useless in the deep stuff.

Also...When boarding I generally dress light.
Otherwise I'd sweat like crazy.

I can totally understand how this could happen.
Out west skiing/boarding is many times more dangerous than around here.

Tragic & at the same time I think.
"There, but by the grace of God go I"

Very sad indeed

Makes you think how fleeting life can be. brings regrets to the front, and "I shouldas" keep you awake. Live the best you can. don't let petty things keep you from friends and family.
Still holding hope, but more keeping those involved in thoughts, and hoping for the best ending.
Hang tough Basil.

Snowboards are actually better in the deep stuff. You have to reverse your thinking though compared to a groomed run. Weight rearward and keep the nose above the surface. In powder it really is more like surfing as you ride/float across the top of the snow where buried branches and such can't snag you up.

It most likely wasn't the equipment, it was the circumstance. Our high country is still getting tons of snow and we have had several avalanches. Many small ones in out of the way areas. The remote nature of back country skiing/boarding is both the blessing and the curse of it. Should something go wrong, it goes real wrong. So far its been a bad year in Colorado for such events. Bad because we have had too many.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all.

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of survival situation...
Where you might have to "hoof it" outta there.

I suppose you could use 2 snowboards like snowshoes and go for help.

These two guys are young and probably in very good physical condition...
I'd give them better chances of success than I'd give myself.

I've only been Nevada skiing a few times and the conditions weren't nearly that bad at the time.

I just don't have any experience with life threatening conditions.

This type of news is always so disturbing from a parents point of view, there's just no expression adequate to the emotions felt!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grouphug.gif
