later brake rods on a Bugeye

I've put later back plates and rear brakes on my Bugeye and I've lengthened the emergency brake rods using a long nut and lock nuts and don't like the look at all. Has anyone stretched the later brake rods in lieu of using nuts and if so, how did you do it?
Thanks, Rut

ummm... weld in a section of 1/4" rod.

Trevor,
Thanks, I'm considering that along with a 2" long replacement yoke. I was wondering if there was another method that would look stock.
Thanks, Rut

Welding in a section is all I could think of. I did the same as you did (with the long coupler nut) when I did the Tunebug. A cleanly welded in section should look stock.

Could you actually use the later brake rods. After all you are using later backing plates. Might be worth a try.

Jim,
im using the later rods, but they are too short and the orientation is wrong since the backing plate sits in a different position than the original. On another note I find that some of the parts I restored early on in this process are not up to the standards I'm using today. It's funny how the methods change after you gain experience!
Thanks, Rut

If the early rod's are too long you could cut and weld then you only have one joint to clean up. I don't remember what I did but it worked!

Kurt.

Kurt,
My early rods appear to be the same length, but they have the little bend in them. I'm one of those people who restore the parts that are not going back on the car just in case. I was pointed to a 2" long threaded yoke that fits 1/4x28 threaded rod and it may be just what I need to make this work...I ordered a couple and will report back.
Thanks, Rut
