Late OD does not disengage

I have had this blue label unit in the car for a few months after buying from a sitting parts car and it was working fine. It now will not come out of OD when the switch is turned off, it pops out unpredictably after it is switched out.

I was told on another BB to put in mystery oil, but since the actuating piston is accessible I thought I could take it out and maybe find some well known problem. I took it all out when I first got it and all seemed well, replaced the filter, etc.

Thanks

The switch isn't sticking is it? Does it engage immediately when you turn it on?

Never say never, but since it does engage perfectly I'm assuming the switch is fine. Easy to check it though.
