Late BJ8 brake rotor- thickness specs

Can someone tell me the specs for the brake rotor, late BJ8. I am trying to decide what to do with a rotor that has been galvinized on the surface. It still reads 0.5 inches. But I wonder if the galvinization will need to be taken off.

Any opinions?

For what its worth I should think that the galvanising is a bad idea. If it is hot dipped or electroplated , 1) it may ware off in chunks causing a bit of a problem on the braking front ( possible grabbing one side ) and 2) once it wares off you are back to the original finish anyway.

I agree, but the PO galvinized a lot of parts. I usually have to wire brush or use acid primer on the parts to get paint to stick also. On these brake rotors, if the thickness is still ok, I can get the surface machined.

I don't see why you couldn't get them machined.

You won't need to take a lot off them. I would start with 0.010" per side and see what it looks like after that.

I don't feel the galvanising is going to affect the rotors structually to any great extent.

Braking ability would be less because the pads will find it more difficult to bite into the rotor.

Have used salt water over here on galvanised corrugated iron roof sheets to "etch" the sheets prior to painting, apply, leave awhile and rinse off

I took them down to NAPA auto parts. They charged $12 each to resurface them. A very resonable price!
