Late 4 Syncro w?OD

If I may, let me point out that the wiring and switch for the OD is probably (unless someone removed it) in the wiper stalk on your '74. I don't know if you like the shift mounted switch more, but if you want to swap in an OD Tranny, you can save the cost and hassle of the new swich and rewiring to use the existing setup...which I personlly find more ergonomic, easier to operate and less prone to accidental engagement. Also retains more orginality, which may or not matter to you...

Just my suggestion

Also the later OD uses a different speedo drive ratio, so you would have to correct that as well.
Having used both types, I think being able to engage with your hand on the wheel is somewhat better.

Thanks again Andy. You may have saved me quite a headache. As I should know, one cannot do enough research on these cars before any modification is made.

You are correct. 68-74 units are 1280 TPM while 741/2-80 units are 1000 TPM. A mixed combination would make for a huge speedo error - over 20% - too low.

Thanks to you astute advise, I contacted the supplier of the transmission and he is removing the 1000 TMP drive gear and replacing it with a 1280 TPM gear.

Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Thanks again

My idea for changing the Speedo drive gear will not work. I am left with changing the Speedo to a 1000 TPM model. It seems that is the only solution. I can get a Black Label O/D transmission from same guy now. I may take everyone's advice and use the Black Label with the pod switch.

Thanks for the advise guys. Saved me $ and hours of aggravation

Actually, you won't notice much of a difference between the 2 speedo's with an overdrive tranny...maybe 5mph

...however, easiest thing is to put an OD speedo with the OD tranny
