Well

I drove the C for last time in her home town for what is likely to be the last time for a couple of years.

Come Friday she's being packed off to Melbourne for the MG Natmeet in Tasmania over Easter then she gets packed off back to Perth and straight into storge and come May I'll be on my way to Brazil for two years (closer to you guys but further away from my old girls /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif )

If you look at the attached article you'll see why....

Still when I come home the B will at east still be around to use.

If any of you guys happen to end up in Bello look me up.

I saw a pristine 1949 MGTC yesterday at the shop. Factory perfect. John was just finishing her up. RHD. Wow.

I'm not planning on leaving the virtual world anytime soon.
We will be having broadband in our apartments as part of the deal and besides I like hanging out here from time to time.

I also get 4 flights a year to use as I will, and some will be to vistas new (at least one to the US)but at least one a year will be to home, which is why I'm getting the B looked after (and driven) by a friend, it means she's available for me to use in the event that I'm home.

In the meantime though the C has her one last grand adventure before she goes into hibernation.

The Oz MG National Meet is in Tasmania this year so I'm getting her shipped to Melbourne (was originally going to be Adelade then driven to Melbourne but time is in short supply for me at the moment)then I'll be driving her to the meet via the Bass Strait Ferry and then round Tassie before she gets returned to Melbourne and then shipped back straight into storage.

And for those who ask why I'm not driving the whole way from Perth, If you look at a map of Australia you'll see why, Perth to Adelade is nearly 1250 miles mostly of complete nothingness(people do it but people also die of dehydration out there).

Two weeks after I get back I do the hop to Bello to start work on CVRD (still slowly working my way up on Portugese)


PS Jaybird, I'm going to have to get used to LHD now, South America of course being the same as the US.
 
Ah that's right, there's only a couple countries that drive on the wrong side.

You come to the states and you're in the midwest, you can borrow one of ours to drive Tom!

My niece is Brazilian. Dark, beautiful girl, no idea why she married into the family...

Tom, Hope your endevers meet with your expectations. Good luck on that. Note, I can truly understand your concern about driving on the left side. While in England, it was a chalange to not only to drive on the, (wrong)hmmm, side of the road, but going around the roundabouts the,(wrong),way took a while to get used to. But it was fun! You should be alright. I did that in reverse moving from the US (after 20+ years of driving on the right) to the UK and immediately went into the full commute to work and social & domestic travel routine. With a RHD car it was no problem though I found other things (roundabouts, narrow roads, congestion, etc.- though you've get the joys of tempermental Latin drivers and road signs you can't understand- if they're there at all) more troublesome. Only once or twice did I "stray" while driving- typically in parking lots and a couple of times on unmarked roads- the lines helped remind me where I shouldn't go....

And since then I've found I can go back and forth between the two without much problem, though it is a little harder driving on the Continent when in a RHD car. I think the seating position sets my unconscious to thinking I should be on the other side of the road. But you'll not be having that odd problem....

Several of our senior people are expat Americans who have been in Brazil for years, in one of the briefings one of them informed us that unlike the US and Australia the Brazilians don't take their road rules too seriously .... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

There are alot of British Cars in South America!!You never know unless you look!!
