I got a Dell dual core processor with 2GB of RAM, 180GB hard drive, 19" flat panel, and Windows Media Edition for less than $1000.00 AND 18 months no interest./quote]

Bob's your uncle! IMHO, that's your machine, any of my employees would be happy and satisfied with that machine.

Doesn't sound like a laptop machine to me! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

oooopps! I stick by my original budget for Dell then, say $1,000 to $1,500 to handle what the program demands are, but I only have experience with Dell laptops.

My apologies, this machine wasn't a laptop. I was just trying to point out that you can really find some great deals on-line. You need to shop around and look at several brands and makers. Many schools offer deals for students and employers have employee purchase programs. (Mine was purchased through my husbands' employee purchase program because it was so much better than what I could get through my school district)

I am on an Acer right now and since my desktop bit the dust I have been using this exclusively and LOVE it. It was a little pricier than I originally wanted to spend for a laptop ($1,100), but it is loaded and does everything I require from a computer!

One other thing, when you get your wife her shiny new laptop, get a security cable for it. laptops are very portable. Sometime WAY TO portable. Almost every laptop has a little slot that a special lock fits into.

My wife just bought me my first laptop... an e-machines they had on sale at wally world... I'll post on it later after I delete all the extra crud and get the thing optimised the way I want it to be.... Ok, maybe tomorrow night /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Ok. Here it is. Pretty nice. Sempron 3200+, DVD RW, 60GB HD, GeForce 6100, 14 inch widescreen 1280x800, very bright colors, sd card reader, Win XP home (with some bits of media center added in), 3 usb ports, built in wireless. Very small footprint, very lightweight, and after 3 hours of MS updates... working nicely and only slightly warm at the exhaust fan. eMachines are pretty nice. It's the brand I've bought for our last 3 home desktop computers. best of those lasted 6+ years. I like it so far. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
