Laptop odd movie night

Offline
The TV died today, So, I'm gonna curl up on the couch with the laptop and watch my strange movies.

1) Hitchhiker's Guide - Love it, finally bought it.
2) City of Lost Children - Never seen it before, but the previews on the Heavy Metal movie have always intrigued me. Found it at Target yesterday.
3) Casino Royale - never could miss a good 007 movie. Haven't seen this one either.

I liked Casino Royal. They made Bond seem tougher, yet more real than most of the other movies.

Sure agree on the new Casino Royale. One of the best 007 movies I've ever seen. I liked seeing "where he came from". And Judi Dench as M is a hoot!

Tom

Kenny, if you like quirky movies then you'll love City of Lost Children. Its up there with Brazil.

Hitchhikers - Meh, the book was 100 times better.

Cities of Lost Children - Never saw it.

Casino Royale - Daniel Craig will never be as good as Sean Connery!

Have you ever seen Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" a truly quirky movie from the mid 80's.

I think Hitchhiker's Guide would have been better if I hadn't read the book 10 times and had my own visions that didn't mesh with the movie.

Also add to the list....Clockwork Orange another strange and disturbing movie.

"The Watch, The Wallet and the Really Big Fish"

Brazil and Clockwork Orange both pretty good.
Other quirky movies I like are:
Dark City
Minority Report
Heavy Metal
Clerks (and all the rest of the Kevin Smith movies)
Labyrinth
Final Fantasy
China Syndrome
The Andromeda Strain
Soylent Green
Maximum Overdrive
The Day the Earth Stood Still - Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!
Looker
Blue Thunder
Max Headroom
Scanners
Dreamscape
Videodrome
Twelve Monkeys
The Hidden
Repo Man
Phantasm (all 4 - there's supposed to be a part 5 coming out sometime soon)
Clash of the Titans
Altered States
Blade Runner
The Butterfly Effect
Brainstorm

And many more

You do have some good one listed there, especially Maximum Overdrive, Heavy Metal, and The Day The Earth Stood Still (gotta love the nod that they made in Army of Darkness). I just finished up watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Movie.

Ok guys fess up, who's going to go see Deathrace?

Maximum Overdrive and the word "good" in the same sentence??!! These truly ARE the end of days!!! LOL

Well I'm going to whine about Casino Royale!

There are three things you can always be sure of with a James Bond movie (even that one with George Lasenby)- a good car chase, everything explodes, and James gets the girl in the end (all pretty much in that order too).

In Casino Royale, the car chase was pathetic (rolled a new Aston - big deal), nothing significant blew up, and the girl dies! I mean - what were they thinking??

And what is with Daniel Craig's permanent pout - looks like he's always making kissy kissy with thin air all the time or something.

The only true James Bond was Sean Connery! And the only true James Bond movies were Dr.No, Thunderball, Russia with Love, and of course Goldfinger. Things went down hill from there on.

O.K. Rant Over.

Rob.

Maximum Overdrive was so bad it was amusing to watch....
"We made youuuuuuu! We made youuuuuu!!!!!" hehehehe
And they supposedly outran any speedboats they may have encountered???
Hitchhikers guide was good. If you heard Douglas Adams take on why it was different it made more sense. Personally I liked in order from best to not quite as much, The books, the radio show, the low budget 80 TV show, then the movie. But I do own the dvd, and get a kick outta it.
Sounds like you enjoy a wide range of things Kenny. That's the best thing about all this.

Soylent green is PEOPLE !!!!!
Great list there Kenny. Just purchased Dark City and copied Labryinth (Jennifer Connelly fan).
Rick

Soylent Green is PEOPLE ranks up there with Frankly my dear, I don't give a dam* and I don't think we're in Kansas anymore! Great movie lines!! And of course, Get your paws off me, you dam* dirty ape!

Or Donald Southerland pointing and squalling really loud.
(1978 version of Invasion of the body snatchers)

You know nothing. heck is only a word. The reality is much, much worse. -Dr. Weir (with his eyes missing), Event Horizon

We have such sights to show you - Pinhead, Hellraiser

You're lying. It didn't die. You took it. You're lying. You witches! You're lying! You're lying! You're lying! You're LYING! - Rosemary, Rosemary's Baby

Kenny sounds like you'd enjoy the rock-n-roll monster bash here in Atlanta. It's coming up on June first.

Car show, concert, and movies! This year it's Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, and the Werewolf vs. the She Vampires.
