Yep, I've heard that too! I remember when Mt Ht Helens blew, we had ash falling here in New Mexico!
 
Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded is a good book about it.

All sorts of disasters out there just waiting to happen. Talk of Mount St. Helens reminds me of the recent hurricane that hit Galveston Isaac's Storm another good book about the Hurricane that destroyed Galveston in 1900.
 
There is an island that was formed during the original eruption. Not from bits and pieces, but just one big hunk of rock shot into the air and plunk, a new island.
 
One the other side of TN from me, we have what's known as the New Madrid fault. Scientists have been saying we're due for another quake from it about anytime as the last one took place in the early 1800s and is at least partially responsible for the formation of Reelfoot Lake. Recent studies have downplayed its danger, but who really knows.
 
Well, it would certainly make moot the perennial discussion re: global warming!! :devilgrin:

Well, talk about good timing! I just heard a FoxNews alert that an earthquake in that area was just felt in three states!
