Klunging sound on deacceleration

1275 bugeye, If if accelerate then take foot off pedal, get loucd klunking noises from the rear. If I let off slowly, it's OK. Checked u-bolts, shocks, etc. Any other ideas? Also checked motor mounts and trans mount. Thanks.

Exhaust loose clunking against something?
I've had both of those, as well as loose shocks.

may be worn bushings in locating arms loose spring mounts or worn hubs if wire wheels ?

I was looking at the bushings in the location arms and they do look very worn. Are they a lot of trouble to replace? If I jack up the rear suspension, is there tension on that part, or can I just unscrew and replace?

Shock mounts? Where the long bolts go thru the shock body. They can loosen and make a "thunk" on load. Going over a set of railroad tracks can reproduce the thunk if those bolts get loose, too.

My vote is the universal joints; worn. Cheap & easy repair.

I'm on the Toms River.

It sounds like a bad universal joint to me.
