Keystone Cop boater

I thought I'd seen it all boating until....

This guy with an oversized boat is trying to get it
onto a trailer by himself. He's on the ramp,got the
boat connected to the hand winch and cranking away.
The wife is still on board.

Suddenly, the truck breaks loose and starts sliding
backwards into the water with no one inside. The wife is
still on board shrieking by now as she, trailer and boat
head for deeper water.

The guy runs around and jumps on board, cranks up one boat
engine maybe 3/4 throttle and pushes driverless truck back
up ramp.

With boat engine still at 3/4 throttle and wife still on
board, the guy jumps off the boat and finished cranking it
onto the trailer. 20 minutes later they are still arguing at
the top of the ramp.

Two nice tarpon today.

Well now that's one way to do it.....
Boy that dock looks fermiliar.

That's actually a good save. Kind a puts a little stress on the hull though and I hope the outboard wasn't running dry too long out of the water.
 
harry ward, there is a restaurant in norwalk ct. were i can dock my boat that serves lobster salad sandwiches to die for, we usually get a table outside overlooking the public boat launch that's just the other side of the narrow river, mind you this restaurant is not inexpensive but id be willing to pay five times as much just for its entertainment value. last episode - guy losses his brand new boat off trailer, jumps in water to catch it, gets about 15 feet from dock, realises he cant swim. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif
 
Know that restaurant well and you are absolutely right!

That's the launch ramp I launched from for ten seasons, Stratford before that. I told my Brother in Law for years that we should set up a camera there every weekend and maybe we would win that Americas Funniest Home Video. I've seen boats dropped in the lot, sinkings because the plug was out, outdrives snapped and dragged for hundreds of feet, and lots of people going swimming with there clothes on. Ahhhh the days of boating and fishing! Sure is fun!

FWIW:

Once again Homeland Security snuck up on us out of no
where. But this time in an even bigger, stealth boat
and with a little bitty very quiet helicopter overhead.

Two of us and four trolling rods. A a whole bunch of THEM
and they about swamped us with their wake. They ask us what
we are doing? Tito and I kinda just look at each other.

"We are fishing" we reply .

But thinking to ourselves-
"what's it look like we are doing, you buttheads"?
"What else is there to do in this fishing channel?"

A no wake zone and they gun out there full throttle.
I guess they were bored.

You guys must be fishing near something they don't want you to see - that itty-bitty heliocopter costs in excess of $700 per hour to operate! That or you're fishing directly in the middle of a known smuggling area.
 
Hey Tony,

We are fishing in the middle of a mangrove preserve.

But maybe it's the fact that it's 6:00 AM, we are crossing
the entire width of the San Juan bay at 50 knots and heading
directly at the new convention center that we use as our
primary point of reference in early morning?

Maybe that enters the equation?

But you'd think by now they'd know my boat as it is a
one off custom built and bright red.

Makes for good fishing lies (uh, tales )I mean.

If Banjo's wife had not overslept, she and Ben might have
enjoyed meeting the Homeland folks!

I think I tied that guy for the Keystone Cop prize today. We've had lots of rain recently and I went down to the boat to make sure the bilge pump was working ok. It wasn't. Apparently, I left the outlet hose laying in the boat (a little Boston Whaler). This meant that I had a boat full of water with about 3 inches of freeboard, and a storage battery dead and under water.

I went and got the little 12V battery I use as a starter battery, balanced on a boat seat, and fished out the bilge pump wires. I finally got it all connected and working and started to step out of the boat onto the dock. This of course rocked the boat, tipping the new battery into the water. I lunged to catch it and kicked my tools into the water. I won't go into the remaining events except to say that I'm happy that half filled gas tanks float, but there should be a tether to prevent them from floating downstream.
 
Looks like maybe a little too much boat and not quite
enough truck to me. Very entertaining to watch
such, but you just gotta feel sorry for the guy.

Oh, well, alls well that ends well.

did you?

I'm certain you were wearing your CG approved life vest
when you boarded the swamped Whaler?

I saw 13 folks in a 16 foot whaler, a while back.
They were going to drag a banana blowup behind them.

After doing marine elctronics for 27 years I still can't understand why anyone would own a boat.

That was a good save though, probably the only way it could have been done. After all, the boat had a lot more HP than the truck....
 
Ya got me. He off loaded all the kids and teens
but left his wife aboard. She was clueless and pretty
much shrieked the entire time.

I'd have offered to help the poor slob but I was afraid
to get my boat close to the dock with all his foolishness.

Plus a strong cross wind and broke down boat being towed
was in the immediate area.

I bought my first boat in 1984- used Grady White.
Boats are a difficult habit to break. Still, a whole
ton of $$ money less expensive than owning a TR6.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif I work on other peoples boats and enjoy them as a passenger/crewman, not an owner. The only one I ever owned (besides conoes and kayaks) was nothing but a money-pit!!
 
Tinster, pardon me but that is the weakest argument I ever heard for justifying boat ownership.

I can buy a nice TR6 for what a new motor would cost.

I gave my last skiff away to my next door neighbor so I'm boatless.

I agree that boats can be a hard habit to break, we have clients who are on their 3rd or 4th big sporty.
