I'm assuming we have fans of Hyacinth Bucket here? My mother thought the show was hysterical (which now strikes me as ironic, considering how concerned she was with appearing to be well-bred herself). Now I'm a fan, but I just recently realized what a brilliant physical comedienne Dame Patricia Routledge actually is.

The episode where she takes Richard to look for Iron Age remains (S3E2), then has Elizabeth over for coffee -- the bit of business with the biscuits, the plates, and the coffee cup is sheer magic. Patricia and Josephine Tewson basically put on a brief masterclass in slapstick. It's so quick and so detailed I had to go back and watch it again to catch it all.

I think I'll sigh up for BritBox so I can watch it all over again, as well as As Time Goes By and several others.

Dame Patricia Routledge also stars in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates. A much grittier character - she plays a private investigator in a family where her husband has lost his pension. Quite good - but also a little uncomfortable (in a good way) in that the conclusions aren't always neat.

We subscribe to Britbox and find it's probably the service that get's watched more than any other. As for Keeping up Appearances, besides streaming it on Britbox, I bought this for Wife for Christmas a couple years ago - complete set on DVD.

Mustn't let Mitsy see that, she insists we watch the show when PBS runs it. I can only take Hyacinth in short bursts.

Her Hetty Wainthropp character is a completely different story. πŸ‘
