KC-135 Crash!

A KC-135 (my son is Aircraft Commander for this bird) crashed on takeoff. In the story, apparently the writer doesn't know that a "military 707" is called a KC-135. Glad they all got out alive...coulda been a lot worse!

Actually I read on another site that it may actually be a civilian contracted tanker, meaning "707" would be the correct designation. Either way it's essentially the same plane.

My neighbour's kids flies one of those, but I'm sure that's not him. Right now he's on a mission "somewhere near Africa".

I was luckey enought to hitch a ride on one of those a few years ago (and see some F15s get re-fueled). By the way, the boom operator told me that the KC-135 came first and is the original design. They developed the 707 from it.
 
Worked the hydraulic systems..including the IFR(boom) systems for three years at RAF Mildenhall England. Wonderful old plane as were our RC-135s and EC-135s that I flew on often. Coming off fighters for most of my career it was fun to deploy TDY and be able to take all your tools and equipment, land at whatever country and hit the ground running. also got to refuel some A-10s and other assorted fighters as the boom was my system. On the ECs, my additional system was the five mile long trailing wire ant. Got to run that in and out ..normally about 2 1/2 miles..juice it to 25 kva and talk to subs. Fun job.Glad this turned out as well as it did. Scary.

That is correct. Boeing built the aircraft as a refueling plane for the military. Then adapted it to civilian airliner use.
 
Not the 707 ,but a dash 80,think same as a C-135
