Just what are "CR reducers"?

Just had the paint mixed for my Rostyle wheels and came trotting home, just to find that the back of the can says to mix 8:4:1 using CR reducers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
What the heck does this mean?
Thanks!

More than likely a specific brand or type of reducer for that brand of paint. Head back to the shop and pick some up as you will need reducer to shoot the paint.

The third number in the ratio is probably for a hardner. make sure to get that too.

Yeah, I think I may do well to go to the body shop with the mixed paint and let them put in the thinner and hardener for me, just to be safe!

If you put hardner in it you have to shoot it right away. Also the reducer is rated by temperature. Make sure you get reducer that has the lower end of the temperature range match the temperature of your shop when you paint. Could mean the difference of the paint getting orange peel or running.

mrbassman is right Once the hardrner is added you have about 2 or 3 hours tops until the paint turns into jelly.
See if they would put the right amounts of each into seperate small containers for you so you could just add them when your ready.

I'm so glad you guys know this stuff!! Thanks so much!

Hello TN,

what sort of paint is it?, the reason I ask is that some paints are extremely hazardous and you must only use them with an air feed mask. I would check that also with your supplier.
A simple measuring rule an easy way to mix paint ratios in your spray gun cup.

Okay, got the wheels painted this past weekend and just used the little bottle with the compressed air attachment from NAPA...it worked great! It did take three of them, however.

The guy who mixed the paint at NAPA said I really didn't need the hardner or the flex additive so I just went with the good old argent silver. I'm still in the process of masking and painting the black on top of that...what a pain, but they look good.

Here's what the finished spare looks like...I'm getting ready to do a couple of more today.

Hmmm...tried to post the pic but it says "permission denied"...will try later, I guess. In the meantime, you can check it out here
