Just stumbled upon this, ugh

Ugly :(

Who would do that to a perfectly good MGA?

Who would do that to a perfectly good MGA?

Who? Someone who would put artificial animals in their artificial back yard. yeesh

Why? Why? WHY????

The saddest thing is that it doesn't really look like a Cobra, doesn't look like a MGA, and really doesn't look good. I'm sure for the money that went into the build you could have built or bought a nice Cobra replica and had a better end product.

The ad implies the seller paid for the "upgrade". I wonder if he finished the work, took it for a spin, parked it, then mumbled "jeez, why did I do this?"

And who knows - maybe someone with more dollars than sense will really like it.

Second one is definitely better. I don't like the grill though. The car doesn't look enough like a Cobra to try to make it look like a Cobra.

To each his own, but neither of those would interest me.

Anyway, we have a kind of similar thing near me. And it's got a Jag V-12 in it (see below).
The guy brings it to local sports car shows and a lot of us look at it with puzzled eyes. The workmanship is superb.

But in all these cases, the owner has taken a wonderful MGA sports car and turned it into a silly caricature of itself. What a pity.

And I'll admit, I've seen some subtle engine swaps that intrigue me. Like a 160 HP Zetec in a stock-looking Midget. Or an M3 BMW engine in a normal looking TR6.
I guess I can especially understand swaps that are reversible. I remember a time when people would buy a cheap Ferrrari 250 GT and drop a Chevy V8 in it!.....If any of those cars are still around, I bet a proper V12 has been reinstalled.

But these other MGA-things look like they belong in a parade at Mardi Gras.

I think we all need to remind ourselves, "my car my choice." seriously though, as my good friend Larry reminds me, there are enough of them put there.... And certainly when I go to British Car Days and I see row after row of identical 'B's Spits, Spridgets and 6's! I certainly agree that it sin't my taste, and, that is the problem with many mods, the other side of the coin is that every once in awhile a Barris or a Fooze comes along and makes it all worthwhile - and, even Barris missed now and again. FWIW there is a V8 MGA in my list of those that got away - lovely little engine swap done in the 60's. In a sense it is the gearhead version of having to kiss a lot of toads to get the princess!
