Just sayin' hi

My welcome PM told me to say "hi". So, I'm sayin' hi. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif
Found the board from an MGEnthusiasts referral. Figured I could use all the help I can get when it comes to fixing and maintaining the "B".

I own a 1975, tundra green "B" with 52,000 original miles. Pretty much still original including all the emissions crap. I'm the third owner and purchased the car in "1995" with 23,000 miles on it. I'm currently working on bringing the car back to great condition…new brakes, bushings, fluids, etc.

I have limited experience with mechanics but with every job I try and screw-up, and reorder parts, I become better and more knowledgable. I will try anything once when it comes to the "B". That's about it for now.

Welcome, Bman!

Tundra Green is one of those colors not seen much, and I love it! Our '73 is Black Tulip.

Your experience of ordering parts twice is pretty common! Post often - this is a great place!

Welcome - let us know what we can do to help....

Ah, sorry....usually don't connect the two - try to keep them separate...but I will try to remember better

Welcome to the madness! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif You learn the same way I do. Screw up a couple times, then realize what you did wrong. It's worked well for me over the years.

Well, I'm glad I'm NOT the only one. I just get tired of ordering…waiting…fix…ordering…waiting…fix AGAIN, if ya get my point.

"If ya ain't done it three times, y' ain't done it atall."

Welcome, Bman.

I'm helping a guy who's never built an engine before do it over the phone...he came by y'day & I showed him how to install rings....so, this morning he calls & says "its hard to turn"...duhhhh...so, I asked him if it turned smoothly without any strange noises & then told him to button it up..at that point, he tells me he has to torque the rod caps!! MAN!!!

Of course you have to torque the rod caps on a B engine... everyone knows that! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Welcome Bman, don't be shy... post often and have fun!

Mebbe there won't be more'n ONE rod bearing spin and he can do it all over again... in ~order~ this time.

See attached photo. Not my rebuild, but WAS my '67 B-GT. Mass T'pike, 10PM, on a Sunday in 1973... ugly. First Wife was at th' helm, following me in th' Elan to Maine. She handled it deftly.

Well, I told him to take each one off, check the besrings & torque them properly....

...he's slowly gaining confience but he elephones NUMEROUS times a day...sometimes I think I should'a just gone over there & put it together for him!

heh. I understand... but you're "teachin' him t' fish" this way. I did the same thing with a neighbor: newly single mom, bought a Fiat Spider cheap and announced she wuz gonna rebuild it... had a "donor" as well so we made one outta two, her doin' most of the work. Even had "Weber 101" in her garage on an old school desk. Confidence level now mebbe a bit too high. She's talkin' about makin' the donor back into a car again... ACK!
