Just Saw Windows 8

The company that maintains our computers sent a guy out yesterday to check an issue we've been having. He had Windows 8 on his laptop, and showed me the opening page.

Get ready to have your world changed - again! COMPLETELY different!

And I haven't figured out Windows 1! :wall:

No interest. Happy with my iMac and Lion OS. Have Win 7 installed on my iMac also for running some of the older apps i just can't part with.

I've been running Win8 (preview) since February. No problems so far.

Very different "tablet-like" gui, but it's still Win7 underneath.

Not bad at all.

What happened to Windows 3.11?

I still have a copy somewhere around here! (And probably an old computer out in the garage that could run it).

Nope, not yet. Lion does everything I need at the moment.

I'm running Windows 8 and it's fine. I do think the whole new "start" screen is idiotic on a conventional computer though - and I suspect it will completely backfire on them. Fortunately there are easy ways to get rid of it and configure things exactly the way you want. After start-up my Windows 8 machine looks and works pretty much like Windows 7.

My next test is to put it in the airplane and see how it works. I think it might be slightly more efficient than Windows 7 and that will be a good burn test for it. We'll see.

Scott - I feel pretty much the same. Still can't figure out why so many folks are against the Start screen, when it's so easy to switch it to the Win7 desktop if you don't like the new look.

I just got Windows 7 on my new laptop...from XP.

How do I customize my desktop to show one of my pictures instead of the Windows logo screens that seft-default? I've not found any info on this.

Thanks in advance.

Should be able to right-click on your picture and there's an option to set as desktop background.

Doh!

Perfect!

Thanks!!

It's ALL still DOS underneath!!!

Win7 is awkward to network if you actually want it to be part of a Class-C LAN and not that automagic bullsqueeze they insist you will adapt to. "home group" my skinny white butt. They are so busy trying to protect the O/S copyrights they just keep pumping out the same old stuff with a shiny-new face on it. Can't (easily) purchase a machine without that thing pre-installed unless you opt for a Mac.

feh.
