Our back yard is a literal Florida jungle, we've not done much in the way of "landscaping" for a decade or more. A couple months ago Mits decided she was going to start to work on taming it, contracted poison ivy, was stung by ground-nesting wasps, briar vine cuts... now her efforts progressed to the point where she's approaching the back of the property. We've just discovered that apparently one of the oranges we'd had many years ago and not eaten soon enough, got hurled to the back fence area and now has become a fruit bearing TREE!!!! We couldn't see it through the azalea bushes. She just found five ripened oranges and a few more yet green growing on it. Quite the surprise!

Bravo on the 100% recycling victory!

Cool!

impressive!

What kind?

The round and... well, orange kind.

All I know about oranges is, one "kind" has a navel, this kind does not. Must conclude from that, this kind are hatched? 🤷

"Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a botanist!"

A 500% return on your investment is darn good.

We planted three fruit trees in our back yard about 20 years ago.
Last year I found two pears growing from what I always thought was an apple tree.
This year we got about ten great tasting pears from it.
Still nothing from the other two trees.
I wish I knew more about pruning.

Steve - what varieties are the trees? Bradford pear, Bartlett pear, Baldwin apple, Gala apple, etc.?

In front of the house we have a Golden Delicious apple.
The first year we got one apple, but it was magical.
Now we have to share them with birds, raccoons and various insects.
The other tree in front is a red plum, very tasty but most rot or fall before ripe.
In the 'back 40' we have an unidentified apple that barely made it to maturity, in spite of much care.
Now we get these giant apples that taste pretty good.
In the orchard, we have the pear tree, possible anjoe or Bartlett.
The other two trees could be plums of some kind but we never got any fruit.

When our boys were toddlers (both retired now), we bought a little house that had three fruit trees in the back yard, one apple and I don't remember the other two. We never got any fruit from them due to birds, bugs and worms. Our dog used to climb the small apple tree though to get green apples. I guess she didn't mind the worms. First time I saw that it was hard to believe.

Steve - thanks for the details. I'll send you a PM.

Be on the lookout for Anita Bryant! :D Really dated myself with that one, didn't I!?!

SWMBO actually met Anita back when she was just another Okie.
