Just got an E-Type

Bought an e type convertible last week as a 50th B'day present (Thanks Wifey!). The car is a little bit of a project, with a completely rebuilt 4.2 still oin the pallet, and the rest of the car is gutted to finish the body, which is Rust and Dent free. 1 owner car as the previous owner passed on so I was very lucky to find it. My question is, is what vendors supply high quality proper fitting replacement parts, not some of the knock off parts that fit poorly. I am sure I will have other questions, but that is te first one.

I have not had problems with most E type aafter market parts. Experience has showed that most of the parts are good or modified to be acceptable. If you want a Pebble Beach winner that is another deal.

Used XKs Unlimited in San Luis Obispo, CA, comprehensive catalogue, hardcopy and website for last 20 years without a snag. Jay, '67Etype Roadster

XKs Unlimited (California)
Terry's Jaguar (Illinois)
Welsh's Jaguar (Ohio, I think)
Classic Jaguar (Austin TX)
SNG Barrett (the only place I was able to find some otherwise hard-to-find bits, like a small spring clip for the inner working of my handbrake calipers)

For small, common bits, such as brake pads, filters, there is British Parts Northwest up in Oregon. Their prices are very good, but probably not concour quality stuff. I've used all the above and had good luck with them all. Dan Moony at Classic Jaguars in Austin Texas specializes in uprated parts, such as 5-speed gearboxes, beautiful billet aluminum (adjustable) shocks, etc. Here are some shocks I bought from him for my 67 EType:

I've owned a number of E-Types and currently have a 70 series 2 coupe. The guys at Terry's Jaguar in Benton IL are absolutely the best for parts. Not only are they great to deal with, they are very reasonable. The other nice thing is you can talk to the boss if you want to. Bill Terry is a great guy and really knows his stuff. Jerome always remembers me when I call and 99 times out of 100 the parts are in stock and shipped immediately.

Thanks for the info guys. Got the car today and I am very much in love! Also got the XK Catalog and really appreciate the time they put into the catalog. Ordered Terry's but haven't gotten it as of yet.

Hi
Remember your local autoparts and bearing supplier for bearings, u joints hoses etc They're usually cheaper and just as good for generic stuff. Eg the drive shaft and prop shaft u joints are same as one of the Chevys The Jag parts manual has timken numbers etc
I've just started the reassembly on my '68 OTS and am amazed and chastened by what I was driving on at speed-the rear bearings were toast and the radius arm mounts rusted right through. Will follow your progress with interest
