Started working on the hole in the driver's floor - under the paint it was covered with body filler by a DPO. Luckily I have a replacement floor panel on-hand, I just need to teach myself to weld.

Yikes! all that was covered by body filler?

Needless to say ... check every other corner of the car for "similar" surprises. How's the battery box?

Just a little hole... (and ouch!).

Looks like it has been there a while I bet he covered up rusted/perforated floor with bondo (most kinds of which absorb water) and the rest rusted out quickly over time. it would be hard to bondo over that large an area without some structure to hold it in place while it sets up. We call those cars Fred Flinstone mobiles.

I already replaced the battery box, it was slathered in fiberglas with hardly any metal left.

Yeah...if you look at my son's face, you'll see he can't open his eyes for the battery box blowing in his face.
