My wife and I have had the privilege of visiting Normandy twice, once in 2000 and then in 2005. On our second trip, we had arranged a private D-Day tour for our entourage of 7. While on Omaha beach, looking at maps and discussing the landings with our guide, this older lady comes up and stands by our gathering. She begins to speak in French, and my wife, who speaks French, interprets that she was a young lady in 1944, living in Paris and was evacuated by her family to Normandy. She witnessed the landings and thanked us for being the liberators and bringing freedom to France. There wasn’t a dry eye among our group!
