40 years tomorrow, gone but NOT forgotten!

I saw him drive at the British GP in '65 and in the Lotus 30 at Riverside in '64. Watching him hanging it out coming out of 7A on to the strait during practice was a thing of beauty and something I will never forget!

Never seen photo, '65 British GP.

Remember his death well. He was totally
my icon as a youth. I was devastated when he crashed.
I still think of Jim Clark every once in a while.

We painted the nose of the Mk-I Lotus Cortina to emulate his racing version.

He made me aware of Formula-1 and Lotus in particular.

Chapman on the right, there, too.
 
A champion who will never be forgotten! Jim Clark and Colin Chapman...an automotive association made in heaven!! His passing was a day I will never forget! (Never-seen photos -except here on BCF- I took at the '67 GP at Watkins Glen)

He was my hero when I was 11-12 years old. From reading Road & Track articles.

I just couldn't believe the news of his death. I was crushed.

I have a photo of him on the grid in the rain at the German GP 1963 over my computer. Taken by Noel Clark, no relation but son of Ed Clark, Life.
 
Jimmy Clark was, according to Stirling Moss, the greatest loss to motor sport out of all the drivers who were taken before their time.....

There has been a lot of talk as to who was "the best". All things being equal, I reckon he was better than anyone, of any era. Moss, Fangio, Hawthorn, Senna, all tremendous drivers, but Clark was special.
 
To me he was the greatest driver ever -
- + he seemed to be a humble person too.

Here is another, these were taken by the paper my uncle worked for at the time and were never used. Again, '65 British GP. Trophies have improved!

In a word, he was a phenomenon! I feel fortunate to have been able to exchange some pleasantries with him, standing on the grid at the '67 GP. Not 'til Michael Schumaker did anyone even come close in universal appeal! Statistically their careers are very similar!
 
Easily, and without doubt one of the planet's greatest athletes in his day.

I cannot imagine what kind of neurons it takes to drive F1 cars or motorcycles.

Heckuva guy.

Yes,he is indeed a legend.A tremendous driver and good all round bloke.

This thread has reminded me that two other Scottish driving legends passed away this year.Jimmy Stewart (Ecurie Ecosse) and Colin Macrae.
