Jet Hot coating peeling off my headers...........

Yup, you read it right. I didn't like the fact that my Falcon stainless headers were "bluing" after use so smart me had them Jet Hot coated. They were beautiful the first few thousand miles, then they dulled, then they peeled. Googling this phenomenon, I found it very common. Bummer. I am sure that Jet Hot would re-do, like I am gonna just pop my headers off. Wonder what's happening inside the headers? Thank goodness my exhaust system is a straight-thru.

I bought my headers directly from JetHot and they were brand new when they were coated by them. I only have about 2500 miles on them, but issues so far.

I wondered about the inside as well, so when I had the collector off for the welding of the oxygen sensor bung I looked inside. After a wash down with some brake clean, it looked nice and shiny in there. I didn't look from the top when the head was off, but I will when I pull the engine this summer.
 
With stainless I'd have lived with the "blueing". Cast and/or steel get JetHot.
 
I had my intake and Stainless exhaust and headers coated. The motor has never run so hopefully I never will have a problem. I thought to Bill's problem. Maybe the fact they were used they were not treated correctly before they were coated?
Would be my 2 cents.
 
Has anyone tried these guys for ceramic coating?

They have a product called Cermakrome instead of jet-hot. I was thinking about sending them my tubular header for coating.

Never heard of them. But that’s not surprising, there are countless garage shops in the biz because anybody can get into it.

A lot of small shops that do ceramic coatings just use simple, easy to apply coatings from a supplier like Techline. (Do any of those coatings names sound familiar? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif ) Most shops don't actually have the ability to do complex industrial processing. You can even do some of them yourself at home if you want to.

Me, I'd try to go with a vendor like HPC or Swain Technology that does a lot of coatings for industrial, aerospace and professional race team customers.

Yeah JetHot on Stainless is not recommended... by me anyways.

I put it on 2 sets of custom crossover 180deg. V-8 headers and the only one to take was the steel.

The stainless did exactly the same things Bill described.

Dunno why. Probably some chemical malfesance between the homogenious molecular bondings, or something more complexer...
