How many know that Guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (of Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers fame) is a highly-cleared pentagon consultant on Missile defense?

(in fact, using Aegis Cruiser as a missle defense platform as part of The Ballistic Missile Defense System was his idea)

That is really awesome. All springing from a five page paper he wrote for the heck of it.
 
Brian May of Queen got his a Ph.D. in Astrophysics in 2008. There are definitely a lot of smart musicians out there.

It is interesting, though, how many musicians have extreme competency and capabilities in subjects outside of music, which, to me, shows how important music programs are in the schools.
 
Goober Pyle (George Lindsey) was a Science teacher before taking up acting.
