Japanese Mini Trucks [Question]

Anyone have any experience with the little mini trucks coming in from Japan?

I don't have direct experience but do see lots of them running around Calgary... And I did talk once to a tradesman who owns one and he was happy with it, he liked how it was a nice compact truck especially for getting around in a more urban setting like a downtown...

Are any of them allowed into the U.S. yet as private imports? Here in western Canada there are tons of Japanese vehicles of all sorts coming in all the time, the only concern I might think of would be parts sourcing, but beyond that...

These little Japanese trucks were a common sight in the cities of the UK back in the eighties, and did sterling work. They made more sense, as unless you had a large payload, you didn't need a full-size van like a Transit, or a pickup. They are nimble, easy to navigate through tight streets and tighter traffic, and economical. Food service deliveries were the most common use for these.

Thanks guys for the info. We have a horse farm in Oklahoma and I was thinking of getting one or two 4 wheel drives just to use around the place. As far as I know, they can not be tagged to run on the road at the present time. Even though I have no intentions to tag them, Oklahoma is looking into approving them for road use. There are many dealers popping up in the mid west and they are selling for a very reasonable price.

Lots of 'em around here....even see them with AL license plates...& was on the Mississippi coast a few months ago & saw some with MS plates zipping down the road.....good for running errands of for a craftsman to get to & fro the job site.

In NY they are not road legal. I do see them used on farms a lot, a bit more car-like than the ATV derived utility vehicles.
Crosley actually built a very similar type vehicle back in the 40s, but it got overshadowed by the Willys Jeep.(Even though Crosley originally designed the Jeep). If a Jeep today was still what it was when they were first invented they'd have the lions share of the utility vehicle market.
