Jack -- Anyone -- Carpet

Okay,
Got my carpet and panels today. (Thanks Tony!)

They both look great! A few questions for those that have installed the Moss kit.

Am I correct in thinking that the carpet goes in before the panels?

Panels:
It looks as if the door panels are not covered and extra fabric was included to do so. There are two pieces of white padding that I believe to go on the door pieces as well. Is this true? Did you use the padding?

Carpet:
It looks as if the edges are kind of rough. How do you "tuck" the pieces that are not covered by the panels? Or do you? Is there a specific order for installation?

Tuck into the corners and true with razor blade. 3M adhesive will hold in place.Carpet first. You won't see the edges as they are covered by side panels. Looks like I'll need to pull Bugsy's carpet up before welding in Driver's Side Footwell.

Any special tools that will make this job easier? I do like getting new tools. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Carpet knife! May want to take a picture of your hands with all 5 fingers first.

Razor worked great in a holder.

I put the panels in first.

Doors will have a bit of sound deading material then a peice of vinyl over it. The sound deading stuff is so the doors are quiter when closeing.

I am talking about the red door panels themselves. They are not covered and there is extra vinyl and two pieces of padding in the kit. Is this what you had in your kit, Jack?

Barry - you have a Bugeye, right?

Yes it is. Now like I said, hold off for a bit of the silver insulating from somewhere, Home Depot maybe that is used on air ducts. Then put the vinyl over that in the doors.

Keeps em from clanging when shuting them.

Orginals had a bit of ribbed rubber stuck right to the metal of the inter door. Noisy that.

Jack,
I already put the second skin stuff in the doors and throughout the car for sound deadening. I am trying to save a few pieces to send down to you. I have already put black vinyl in the doors to match the dash. I know, I know, I should have kept it all red. I might even change when time permits.
I have the kit spread across the living room floor. I see all the panels that I need except the ones that screw/bolt onto the doors to create the "pocket". I think I have them but they are not covered with vinyl. The "foamish" stuff looks to be slightly larger than these panels that are not covered with red vinyl. Are you sure the panels are not supposed to be padded? Why would Moss cover all of the other panels except for the two?

box cutter can be more accurate - fresh blades! carpet knife is more for carpets in corners of rooms

Sorry, I was confused. yep you have to cover the door pocket covers as well. However they are not near as nice as the orginals and are confusing to mount. The orginals mount with only two bolts at the tops and the sides and bottom have a metal peice riveted to the pannel which is bowed and also has a 1 inch by 1/8 inch peice surounding it so that the center sets in.

Let me take a pic tomorrow, I will pull one and inclued both sides etc etc.

This is a bit difficult to explain.

Do try to fine the orginal metal parts to hold it in, guess they could be made easly enough.

Any way Pics tomorrow.

Oh yea, Moss could not cover these because they need the metal parts riveted to them to hold them in place. No padding on orginals only hard cardboard stuff.

Thanks Jack. That makes sense. I couldn't figure out what in the world was going on and how they were supposed to fit. I will certainly appreciate and pics you can give.

A side note.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Anyone have a lead on the hardware needs for the door panels??? >

They are just made from some heavyish sheet metal, or even alum as you will see, not a big deal.

Black inside the door with a red pocket sounds nice to me. Esp with a black dash. When will we see pics?

As requested pics of the inside door coverings.

Note that the stuff is very hard cardboard. Foot I did not get the last pic small enough you will have to click on it.

Arn't they awful close up.

Trevor,
Thanks for the encouragement. There is just something about red and black that appeals to me--Dunno. I will post pics when progress is made.

Thanks for the pics Jack. I will have to figure out how to make those pieces. I bet I can use spacer material to make the lip as opposed to bending.... Will hav eto think about it.

When you attached your panels, did you use screw and flat washers or cup washers?

In fact I used one of each, both with cups on them, stainless of course. The rear is a bolt and nut and the front a screw just cause it worked in the orginal holes. I think the passanger side is both nuts and bolts with cups on them.
