First the bad news.
Ms Triss did not start today as we had hoped.
Now the good news.
My friend Larry came over and together we
1. finished the fuel hoses - why Oh why Mr British Leyland do you have two sized hoses in one fuel line?
2. Finished the coolant system and filled with rad fluid.
3. Attached the exhaust with more than plastic ties.
4. put gas in the tank.
5. filled her with oil - including the carb pot
6. attached the speedo cable, oil pressure cable, choke cable and have the dash hooked up and in place - though not attached.
7. did a preliminary adjustment on the valves clearances.
8. checked the dizzy gap, got the new plugs installed and ran up the oil pump with a drill.
9. put on the new rotor, distributor cap.
10. hooked up the battery
11. turned the key.
she turns over with authority but while she has oil/ coolant/ and turns over, she as no gas. Don't think it is a problem - just need to prime the carb.
basically we ran out of time so Larry will be back Tuesday to see how she goes.
there is something really wonderful about realizing that your car is actually doing the things it is supposed to. I was in the car, trying to start it when I noticed a red light on on the dash, even when the car wasn't trying to run. Looked it up and realized it was a idiot light, there to tell me to turn off the ignition since the car wasn't running.
then I looked back and realized the trunk light was on - no trunk lid - of course the trunk light is on.
Oh, and the other day, Ms Triss got her VIN numbers reriveted on. which was oddly meaningful.
here is a poor pic of the engine - will try to remember to take some as I go
thanks all for your care, support and advice - you have no idea how it has helped - well, maybe you do
